[ When he didn't come home the first night, she didn't worry. Anakin was probably off with someone and it's not as if he has to report to her. He wasn't there in the morning, though. No message, no sign he'd even come home. She didn't see his taxi at all while she was shuttling supplies.

By late that night, she starts to get worried. ]

Anakin? Where are you? [ Her voice is soft, worried but not panicked. ]

[ 12 hours goes by before he listens to her message, and two more before he knocks gently on her office door on Heron. ]

I should add that you won't get the entire contents of my mind and heart every time we speak. I was in a bit of state when I got here. I'm much better now.

[ He chuckles softly. ]

I don't mind. I had a lot on my mind. Talking about Padme is one of the better things that happened that week. I feel like I should have thanked you.

[ Curiously, he prods about her better mood. ]

Okay, no, but it has been some time and Obi-Wan has missed Anakin a lot. He has tried to give Anakin some space, to process and spend time with his loved ones. He doesn't want to intrude on that calm.

With that, he lingers a little beside the door before knocking. ]

[ Anakin's consent was sent through the Force but when Obi-Wan lingers a bit longer, he impatiently opens the door with a wave of his hand. ]

Really, Obi-Wan. Now you think knocking is appropriate.

[ He shakes his head and returns to his vigorous ripping and tearing dismantling of junk. Surround him in an almost neat circle are pieces of plastic and metal with smaller pieces closer to him. ]

[ Padmé had gone to check on Leia, as she did everyday, whether in person or over the comms. She returns to their room much too soon, distracted and worried. She's so distracted, in fact, that she doesn't notice Anakin is there too for a few seconds. But when she does, she moves toward him. ]

Can you sense Leia?

[ That's really the only way to be sure, she thinks. ]

[ He didn't have the heart to tell her right away. He checked the circuitry in his arm for a moment longer then he stands. His arms are around her shoulders before a soft answer comes. ]

No.

I'm sorry, Padme. She's gone home.

[After Ahsoka's had a week of rest and recuperation following the incident with Greed and Ling, she drops by Anakin's quarters on the Paisley once more and knocks on the door.]

Anakin? It's me. You home?

[sandhate]

[ he gently prods her through their Force connection, a reluctant but welcoming feel. anakin is tired but he's working meticulously around a fuel cell. trying to understand and getting to cooperate as he'd like is more challenging when he doesn't have that damn engineer chip. but he is nothing if not relentless.

he solders away and doesn't look up when she enters. ]

[ Cue Anakin, in simple shirt and pants. Courtesy of his wife. ]

Looks like I'm going to be. What's going on?

[ There's no point in asking how he is. She already knows. ]

[ He finds the text odd and impersonal, as if Padme is extending a professional courtesy. Is this his punishment. No, there's no point in thinking about that now. ]

There's nothing we can do. He'll turn back to normal eventually. Just like Ahsoka.

[ Because Obi-Wan knows Anakin, despite all the changes, he makes sure that this is voiced. He'd probably show up soon too, just in case Anakin runs off. ]

Barriss is here. But she's from before the act of sabotage in the Temple.

He came to my quarters for a chat. [ a short sigh ] Something's wrong, isn't it?

[If Anakin answers Ahsoka's call directly, or if he lets it go to voicemail, he'll hear the following in Ahsoka's voice-- "business mode" immediately recognizable.]

Anakin. There's been some kind of destruction on the planet's surface caused by some members of the fleet. I'm volunteering to go planet-side and help with the relief effort before the Atroma inevitably ship us out.

If anyone's looking for me, I'm going to be staying there until everything's cleaned up, or until the Atroma teleport us back onto the ships for departure. Whichever happens first. If you're not busy, I could really use the help, but I'm going regardless. See you soon, either way.

[Knocking, then popping her head in.]

[ he felt her coming. and he presents her with a small model of an eta-class interceptor in the middle of his palm ]

[ Obi-Wan discreetly leaves a pile of junk mechanical parts he scavenged from the ship for Anakin.

He won't wait around but he knocks on the door to let his padawan know. ]

[ a week later

there's a mangled ball of parts on obi-wan's doorstep. it's a deceptive mess. a nudge in the right directions, something that can be done easily by a force-user or delicately by anyone else, will unlock it and lay the mess in an overly simplified layout of the jedi temple on coruscant. although someone less patient than obi-wan would untangle it the wrong way, it would just become a bigger mess. ]
